Roy WeirRoy Weir - Chairman of the South of Scotland Regional Advisors

Ewan BrewisEwan Brewis

Ewan has a family farm near Kelso and currently manages 440 hectares (300 hectares of which is arable) at Eastfield and Lempitlaw. He has 100 commercial and 50 pedigree Aberdeen Angus cows and 500 ewes. Ewan is a member of the NFU Kelso Branch, Aberdeen Angus Cattle Society and Border Crop and Grassland Society committees. He is also past chairman of Kelso Agricultural Discussion Society, Border Union Agricultural Society, and Kelso Ram Sales. Ewan has a keen interest in rallying and rugby and is the chairman of Border Ecosse Car Club and is also president of Kelso RFC. Email Ewan Brewis

 

John SproatJohn Sproat

John qualified as a vet from Glasgow Vet School in 1974. He gained a certificate in sheep health and production in 1987 and worked in vet practices in Angus and Aberdeen before joining the Dunmuir Vet Surgery in Castle Douglas as a partner in 1989. John is a past president of the Scottish Branch of British Veterinary Association and was awarded with the William Hunting Award by British Veterinary Association in 2001. Jim MitchellJim Mitchell

Jim is a sixth generation hill farmer at Henderland, a 110 hectare hill farm (800-2200ft) in the Scottish Borders. Henderland carries 1300 blackface and south country cheviot ewes with grazing cattle brought on in summer. Henderland is run organically through the Soil Association and has a closed flock policy. Jim also rent fields at Craigbeck, Moffat for additional grazing and Hay/Silage production and also contract farms Corehead, Moffat for borders forest trust. Jim is a past president of the Blackface Sheep Breeders Association. Email Jim Mitchell

 

Billy RenwickBilly Renwick

Billy farms Craig Douglas and Blackhouse in Selkirkshire and Glen Farm, in Peebleshire. All are hill farms. He runs 3800 pedigree Blackface ewes and 150 suckler cows. Billy is current vice president of the Blackface Sheep Breeders Association and chairman of the Selkirk branch of the NFUS. Email Billy Renwick

 

Mungo GuthrieMungo Guthrie

Mungo has worked within the family farming business since 1982 and is now the managing director of the family beef and sheep farm in Darvel, Ayrshire.  He also works part time as a Procurement Officer for Lawrie and Symington Auctioneers.  Mungo is a Director of the Royal Highland Educational Trust (RHET) and a member of SAC’s learning and skills committee. He is also the vice chairman of the Ayrshire NFUS regional board and past chairman of the local Round table. Email Mungo Guthrie

 

John Scott MSPJohn Scott MSP (Co-opted member)

John farms 800 ewes and 75 suckler cows in Ballantrae, Ayrshire. John served on the South of Scotland Regional Wool Committee for four years and is also the past chairman of the Scottish Association of Farmers Markets. He is an honorary member of the BVA and an associate of the Royal Agricultural Society. John was elected to the Scottish Parliament in 2000 as a member for Ayr.  He is the Shadow Cabinet Secretary for the Scottish Conservative Party for rural affairs and the environment.
