Ruth Zadooks is the Moredun Chair of Veterinary Epidemiology and is a joint appointment between the Univeristy of Edinburgh and the Moredun Research Institute.
After training as a veterinarian in The Netherlands, Ruth worked in bovine herd health and teaching whilst completing MSc and PhD degrees in veterinary epidemiology, focussing on mathematical and molecular epidemiology of bovine mastitis. Since then, she have worked in research and extension in the USA, with emphasis on mastitis and dairy food safety.
Ruth's main research interest is the epidemiology of infectious diseases of production animals, with emphasis on bacterial diseases of ruminants, foodborne pathogens, and pathogens of comparative relevance to humans. Her work is focussed on the use of molecular tools to improve disease control through increased understanding of sources and transmissions dynamics of infectious agents. Ruth is particularly interested in integration of mathematical and molecular approaches to study transmission and control of infectious diseases in populations.
