About Us
MRI was established in 1920 by the Animal Diseases Research Association, now the Moredun Foundation, a charity dedicated to the improvement of animal health and wellbeing through research. The Institute is now a charitable company separate from but subsidiary to the Foundation.
MRI receives funding from the Research Programmes commissioned by The Scottish Government Environment and Rural Affairs Directorate. MRI receives additional funding from competitive awards from national and international agencies and the EU. Commercially sponsored research is channelled through the Institute’s affiliated company Moredun Scientific Ltd.
Since 1998, MRI has been located in a purpose-built International Research Centre at the hub of Pentlands Science Park, a bioscience centre developed by the Moredun Foundation. This site enables the Institute to strengthen its links with industry and commerce.
